WEEK 188 – MINDISTRY

My HeadBangers welcome from Gothenburg, Sweden a very unique band with a great sound.

You will have to go to Spotify to hear the whole song, and believe me it’s worth your time.

MINDISTRY

“Mardröm”

Alright my HeadBangers here we go with our interview.  As always mine are blue and Gustaf’s are in black.

Before we get started I want to thank Gustaf for taking the time to chat with me about “Mindistry”, it means a lot to me that he took the time, so many don’t, but I treasure the ones that do.  OK here we go.

I always ask my bands this question, the name MINDISTRY, what does it mean to you, and why did you chose it?

Well first off, Thank you for taking time!  The word MINDISTRY is as you all know not an actual word.  When I was about 6 years old I always thought Hetfield sang “Mindistry” in Sad But True.  What he actually sings is of course “mind astray”.  However, this word MINDISTRY stuck with me and I thought it was cool.  Contrary to popular belief it has nothing to do with the Band “Ministry”.  I found out about that band when I went to claim my Spotify profile, hahaha.  MINDISTRY is pronounced (the word) MIND (+) ISTRY!!  I explain it on a pinned video on the MindistryOfficial Instagram, with some help from Hetfield!

I went to YouTube and found the same band lmao.  Why are you a one-man band?  What made you want to be a one-man band?  I have to say I’m really impressed with your music; it amazes me that you do everything.

Thank you Sandy.  Unfortunately I have to disappoint you all by explaining that I am only the Rhythm Guitarist, Song Writer, and Singer of MINDISTRY.  The solos were played by three of my friends.  Felix Borg (Mardröm), Bernard Jozic (Blodtörst, Fördärvad, Ökenstorm) and Christoffer Borg (UMLB) and the drums and bass are programmed.  Hopefully on album 2 and forward I will have actual musicians, at least this is my aim.

Well you all sound great to me.  So you started in 2019 just about the time Covid started.  Were you in lock down, did that lead you to think about starting the band?

It actually had nothing to do with Covid.  But all to do with my mental health “issues”.  I went on sick leave from my job at the time around December 2018.  Turned out I had a lot of work to do inside.  My good friend Felix (producer of the debut album) lent me his beat up Laptop with Guitarpro installed to get me started writing.  And that’s really where MINDISTRY began.  From there it went to Garage Band and then into the studio with Felix!

Thanks for sharing that.  We all go through that at some point in our lives.  I have several bands that have and they turned it into music.  Believe me you are not alone.

How do you come up with your songs?  I know you said you were influenced by Raubtier and Sabaton, but you still had to come up with the lyrics and sound.  See I like to know everything lmao.

Haha, fair enough?  The first song I wrote was UMLB.  That was at the time a parody song of sorts, but I ended up rewriting it more seriously.  As a matter of fact I was first set to record a Thrash Metal EP featuring 3 songs.  Felix however, insisted that I should go with the more Industrial approach, and now we’re here!

There is of course some method to my madness  I write songs daily.  If I have something to write about, like a movie or a situation that really works best.  Sometimes I riff for days without getting anywhere.  Sometimes I fiddle with some cool synth in GarageBand and then add a riff, sometimes the other way around.  I have recently started writing primarily in English and that is a lot of fun.  Album 2 will definitely be in English OR dual language.  This is not yet decided.

With that I would like to sincerely Thank you Sandy!  For taking the time and for sharing MINDISTRY with the world.  I would also like to represent my good Gothenburg friends in Sonic Assault and Ominum, seriously check those bands out asap!!  Over and out.

I definitely will my friend.  Welcome to my metal familia.

There he is my HeadBangers.  Check him out on Instagram and FB.  Sometimes I run into the nicest people on this planet.  That’s why I keep doing the Blog.  I have found that no matter what we do we are all the same, no matter where you are from, what language you speak or the color of your skin.  We are one metal familia, I truly believe that and that is how I live my life.

That’s it for this week my HeadBangers, join me next week for another band and another song.  In the meantime don’t stand to close to the fire if you can’t handle the burn…..

Please feel free to leave me a comment or question, I appreciate it HeadBangers:
