My HeadBangers please welcome a band that was conceptualized in 2019, and became a full on band in August 2022. They have come so far since 2019, when I first heard from them and I am happy to bring Disempath to the blog. They are from New Jersey, USA. The band does not really adhere to any genre or sub-genre of rock or metal. All of their songs have each been inspired by different genres. They consider themselves to be heavy alternative music for now. Let’s listen…
“Virtue of the Pessimist”
“Truth Is Hiding”
I love their videos. This one is slamming.
I have been lucky enough to get interviews with the next 2 bands and Disempath is one of them. As always I’m in blue and they’re in black, I’m speaking with Chris K the vocalist. Here we go…
What made you want to start Disempath?
After a traumatic year in 2017, Disempath eventually found its way to me. It has served as a way to forget about myself and my pain, and to focus on reaching the hearts of other people.
What does the name “Disempath” mean to you and why did you choose it?
While listening to some psychological studies by Carl Jung, I came across the term “empath”, and I thought of putting the “dis” prefix in front of it. “Disempath” is almost synonymous with someone who is apathetic. However, I like to think that a “disempath” is someone who was once empathetic… but the world, culture, and trauma have distorted them into someone who can no longer find empathy in their hearts. They still have the chance to find it again, but it will be incredibly difficult.
The band name both serves as something I hope I will not become, and it is also how I view the majority of the world around us. Most people have the capability for empathy and humane solidarity – but they have been dismantled into an apathetic burlesque of what they could be.
There is a German Band I know “The Edge of Reason”, they are dedicated to helping people with psychological problems and people with problems in general. You should check them out, they are really great guys.
Where do you see the band going in the future?
Disempath’s music needs to be something that helps people expose their anger, sadness, and confusion. I would love to see this band become much more than a music-making band. I want us to also focus on our overall artistry, and to create a special kind of community. So aside from typical goals that every band has, I hope Disempath will be a gateway to a better state of mind.
Let’s meet the band, and this is the best pic I could find:
Left to right they are:
Ethan Jurjo
James Mulroony
Chris Krbavec
Kyle Morrow
Erik Ryde
These guys are on FB and Instagram, Spotify, check them out. There’s better pics and more music.
My Thoughts:
Well my HeadBangers here you have a band with a different perspective on what they want their music to accomplish or do they? I think most bands are trying to reach people with a message, it’s the message that is different. I have listened to so many bands with different messages and I love all of them. BUT sometimes you just want to hear some good headbanging music that has no message to anyone but the listener. We as humans whether in a band or not all have a message, that something inside of us that makes us who we are, sometimes good and sometimes bad, but such is life. One day you can be at a rally for something you believe in and the next deep in the woods looking for that past you feel where life was so much easier. Young bands have a different message now than 10-15 years ago and so they should. They world has changed so much, it’s like living in a constant state of chaos. That’s why the music I listen to is picked very carefully. I love all my bands and their music, there is just a time in place for each genre. Sometimes is melodic death metal and other times it’s send me some Thrash from Gothenburg, you know exactly what I mean….
That’s it for this week my HeadBangers. Join me next week for another band and another song. In the meantime don’t stand to close to the fire if you can’t handle the burn…
Please feel free to leave me a comment or question, I appreciate it HeadBangers:
