WEEK 200 – THYRFING

My HeadBangers please welcome from Sweden, the Viking Metal Band:

THYRFING

“Döp dem i eld”

“Järnhand”

Damn listen to those vocals, kill me now.

Let’s look at some bio on these Vikings:

Thyrfing emerged from the ever-growing underground scene in Sweden back in 1995. After seven full-length albums and numerous live performances all over the world, the band have gained a strong following over the years and an exquisite standing within the metal scene. They are considered one of the top bands within the so-called viking/pagan metal genre – but on the other hand, Thyrfing are so much more with their truly outstanding and self-contained musical offering.

The name of the band is taken from the sword “Tyrfing” in Norse mythology – a cursed blade that appears in several tales and myths. Ever since the start, the mythology has played a huge part in the scenery and imagery of the band’s music and lyrics – something which is still intact in 2021.

Even though there have not been any official releases since the acclaimed 2013 album ”De ödeslösa”, the band has still been together and active on major festivals and shows (such as Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Sweden Rock Festival to mention only a few), and also finally played their first shows in new territories such as Russia and Brazil.

Now they are finally back with new music and will release the eight studio album “Vanagandr” through Despotz Records in August 2021. This is an album that has been carefully prepared and envisioned ever since 2015. It showcases all the band’s strengths and trademarks, taking it all to a new level without drifting away from what made the music special in the first place.

”Vanagandr” is a glorious return to form and a striking album that will appeal to both long-time and new fans.

“Vanagandr – 8 songs on here my HeadBangers”

Let’s meet the band:

Jens Rydén – vocals
Patrik Lindgren – guitars
Fredrik Hernborg – guitars
Joakim Kristensson – bass & keyboards
Dennis Ekdahl – drums

My Thoughts:

I have different genres of music that I love and this is one of them.   I can listen to this music and close my eyes and be transported to another time and place.  During this time I can escape all the shit that is in this time and we all need this once in awhile.  This world is so crazy that I would lose my mind if it weren’t for music.  It’s amazing to me how many excellent bands there are on this planet and how many more there are for me to find and bring to the blog.  I get lost in the blog, when I start looking at bands I lose track of time and can spend hours reading and searching about a certain band.  I especially love the name of this one and that it is named after a sword taken from mythology.  I hope you love them as much as I do.

That’s it for this week my HeadBangers.  Join me next week for another band and another song.  Until then don’t stand to close to the fire if you can’t handle the burn…..

Please feel free to leave me a comment or question, I appreciate it HeadBangers:
