WEEK 209 – ELDFAERD

My HeadBangers please welcome from Östersund in the Northland of Sweden the Folk/Viking/Pagan Metal Band:

“ELDFAERD”

“Själafrid”

We need more guys on the Shield Wall!!!!

“Djupa Skogars Hav”

I like that it’s subtitled in English for those that don’t know Swedish.  But, I like  listening to the words and letting the imagination do the rest.

Hailing from Östersund in the Northland of Sweden.  With members from Myrah and Shikaka, Eldfaerd welcomes you on a journey through old norse sagas and other folktales, where they will meet mythical beasts and creatures. They will also witness extraordinary tales which will be told in their own unique ways with heavy guitars, symphonic might, thunderous drums, and emotional voices.

I was lucky enough to get an interview with “Kvasth”, the vocalist for the band, who does both growl and throat singing.  I really appreciate him taking the time to answer a few questions about “Eldfaerd”.  Let’s get to it, as usual mine in blue his in black of course lol.

The band started in 2019, during or right before the Covid hit everyone.  What made you want to start the band and why did you chose Folk Metal, which is one of my favs of all the genre.

Kvasth: Yes, it was in the late 2019 Gorm and I wanted to start a band and meet up and have some fun after some years off from music. We had played many years together in the goth metal band Myrah, and this time around we wanted to play some harder and faster music.  We started to play and create some tunes with a lot of melodies, and we wanted to mix in some viking/pagan stuff in there as well. We love this kind of music, so it also went naturally to go this way. After a short while we felt that this music needed to have a full line-up and that we should take this a couple of steps further. We contacted some friends we had played with before and knew we could rely on, and the band was formed in November 2019.  Unfortunately, the Virus came over us all right after and the process of getting together and doing rehearsals wasn´t there anymore, so the thing we could do was being at our homes and create music and fine tune our sound, so something good came out of it in the end.

I agree with you on that, something good did come out of it!  I read that the name has something to do with fire.  Can you tell me what it means and why you chose it?

Kvasth: I was looking after a name that would suit our theme and I remember a song with the great Swedish band Thyrfing called Eldfärd, and thought the name would fit our band, but we wanted to have another spelling, with ae instead of ä, because it looks nicer that way, and it´s an easier spelling for the rest of the world.  For me the name also has another meaning. If I translate the name Eldfaerd into English, it would be something like “fire journey” or “a journey through fire”, and I see our souls like a fire or glow that fuels us, and we humans are constantly on a journey somewhere, and our lyrics also takes the listener on many journeys, so the name fits us perfect.

You said it perfectly, a journey through fire.  When I started the blog and to this very day it is about the fire that burns in our music.

Some of you play in different bands, do you plan to continue doing so or will Eldfaerd become full time?

Kvasth: I cannot speak for the others in the band, but for me Eldfaerd is the band. I put all my energy and focus into it. I know and feel that we will be big and play at the big stages.

I agree with you, your passion comes through I have no doubt you will play at the big stages.

Is there anything you would like to say to your fans, or anything you would like to add?

Kvasth: Thank you Sandy for this interview! And thank you everyone for all your support this far, we really appreciate it. Check out our social medias and stay tuned for more new epic songs coming out this year. And we will be out there on the roads soon, so see  you there! Until then, Skål!

My Thoughts:

First I want to thank Kvasth again for taking the time to talk with me.  Sometimes bands are to busy, but I appreciate the ones that take a few minutes to give me and my HeadBangers a little look into their realm.  “ELDAERD”  what can I say about this band, the vocals with the throat singing give me the chills, and you all know how I feel about Viking/Pagan/Folk Metal.  Yeah I’m totally a Viking/Pagan/Folk lover and these guys check all the boxes.   Watch their video at the beginning, I really love it.   Even though they only started in 2019 the guys have the experience it takes to make it in this business we love so well.   Check out their website, they have a lot on there.

They are on all social media so get to it my HeadBangers.

That’s it for this week my HeadBangers.  Join me Wednesday for Hump Day and next Saturday for the weekly band.  Let’s see what I can find for you guys lol.   Until then don’t stand to close to the fire if you can’t handle the burn…

Please feel free to leave me a comment or question, I appreciate it HeadBangers:
