My HeadBangers please welcome the Canadian-Colombian Metal Band:
ETERNAL DRAK
“Hide Your Madness”
“The Bombs Are Falling”
I love this song, those vocals are really rough and deep, that’s how I like my vocals.
I’m going to give you some bio taken from their website, before the interview. So let’s get to it:
In 1997 the Martínez brothers, Drakar and Warhammer, aged 17 and 15 began the foundations of “Eternal Drak”.
At the beginning of the 21st century “Eternal Drak” won the “City TV” award for the best Metal video, with the song Eternal Drak.
“Eternal Drak”
In 2002, “Eternal Drak” publishes its first album (EP) “La Resurreccion De La Orden Guerrera”. In 2005, they recorded their second album, but its official release was in 2018, an album mastered in a studio in Québec, Canada and published by “Living Metal”, a Colombian label.
In 2007, “Eternal Drak” disbanded.
In the year 2020, Drakar, Warmessiah and Reijav came together to create the album “The Past is Gone, A New One is Coming”. In memory of his brother and friend, co-founder and eternal drummer of “Eternal Drak”, Eduardo Martínez, Warhammer.
That same year the Line-up of the band is re-organized with the entry of Juan Francisco Avella on drums. In 2021 the third Long Play of the band is released, DRAK METAL, an album with 12 unreleased songs and 1 Cover. In 2022 the 4th Long Play is released, SHADOW STORM with includes the Video Clip Hid Your Madness. The video was recorded in the Oreleans Island in Quebec Canada.
Today “Eternal Drak” is more alive than ever and is determined to honor its name to continue distorting its strings, hitting its drums, strumming its voice, with more Metal, melody, and harmony than ever.
Now you all know me, I had to know more about this band and I would like to thank Andres for taking the time to answer a few questions. As always mine is blue his in black.
What made you move from Columbia to Canada, I know you had your 2nd album produced there, did you just like it there? My grandmother was from Quebec.
The reasons for moving to Canada had nothing to do with music, it is true that in Canada the industry and the musical field are more developed but that was not the reason. The only one who migrated to Canada was Drakar (Singer/Guitar) during the period the band was on standby, the band at that time was not active. The second album Eternal Drak; was mastered in Quebec.
I always ask this question what does the name mean and how did you come to choose it?
The dragon has historically represented a mythological animal in various cultures with a wide variety of supernatural abilities, a being with great strength and power. That’s what we wanted to represent with our name. Drak is the dragon. But we also wanted what we did to last over time, to be remembered for many years, so the word Eternal; was added.
I love that. I am a lover of Dragons and Fire so I right there with you. It’s always so interesting to me, I have to know why bands pick the names they do.
What made you decide to be a 2 man band?
Our founding drummer “Warhammer” passed away in 2019 and this affected us a lot. Also the great distance that separated us from the original members of the band between Colombia and Canada made it difficult to organize concerts or recording plans. We decided to renew the line up thinking that it was the best way to make things easier, a drummer and a guitar/voice would be enough to make a good thrash black metal.
Sorry to hear about “Warhammer”, I know that was devastating for you, I’ve been through that myself. Also there is nothing better than some good Thrash/Black Metal, and you have got that down my friend.
Do you plan on doing any touring? What is in the future for Eternal Drak?
2023 is the year of our return to the stage, we are super excited to meet the public face to face after so long, we will start with the launch of our EP in Colombia with some concerts during the month of July. In 2024 we plan to tour Canada promoting our EP and visit Mexico.
Maybe you can pass through the US, we would love to see you live.
What would you like to say to your fans?
A thank you to each of the people who have followed us for more than 25 years, they are the ones who keep us strong enough to make more metal. Eternal Drak has been adding different things to our style, a bit of Groove metal, a bit of Heavy Metal, a bit of Rock & Roll, tests that we do hoping they will be well received. Currently everything is digital, everything moves through social networks and streaming platforms, so it is super important for us and for all artists in general, that the appreciation and taste for our music is manifested by these same means, give it a like and Following is the way to convey your appreciation to us.
You will always have a place here on the blog, anytime you have something you want us all to know, it will be here. I would like to thank Andres again for taking the time, some don’t, but those who do are that much more special to myself and my HeadBangers. It really means a lot.
Let’s meet this 2 man band:
My Thoughts:We all know how hard the music business is and to thrive in it you must have guts and strength. Anyone can have a garage band and there’s nothing wrong with that. There is a difference however in those that scrape their way to the top and give everything they have while also dealing with the ups and downs of life as they continue their journey. I bow my head with much respect to Eternal Drak for continuing their journey. I wish them the best and I’m looking forward to more from them. When you work hard you will succeed no question.
That’s it for this week my HeadBangers. Join me Wednesday for Hump Day and Saturday for the weekly band. Until then don’t stand to close to the fire if you can’t handle the burn…
Please feel free to leave me a comment or question, I appreciate it HeadBangers:
