WEEK 235 – NECROWRETCH

My HeadBangers I ran across this band and since I’m French I had to add them to the blog.  I love their sound and look.  It gets pretty dark, but they are a Black/Death Metal Band.  Take a listen…

“Numidian Knowledge”

This was just released 3 days ago.  Listen to those vocals...

“Tredeciman Blackfire”

Ok this one is from 5 years ago, but I had to put it on.  Can you see and hear how they really get into their music.  Love it.

Let’s look at some bio on these guys:

Necrowretch was formed in 2008 by guitarist Vlad with “the impure intention to play sadistic-gravecracking-possessed death metal”.  Vlad was joined by drummer Blastphemator and recorded their first demo “Rising from Purulence” after 3 rehearsals. Bassist Amphycion joined after seeing them play a gig, making the band a trio and then going on to record their second demo Necrollections in 2010. Their first EP, Putrefactive Infestation was released in 2011 on 12″ vinyl containing 4 tracks.  They then released a compilation; Ripping Souls of Sinners, followed by a second EP; Now You’re in Hell, released on 7″ vinyl consisting of two tracks and featuring a cover of  Death’s “Zombie Ritual”. Blastphemator later left the band later in 2011 due to a “total lack of motivation”.

“Zombie Ritual”

I’m not kidding this man has those vocals down…

Before the release of their second EP, Necrowretch were signed to Century Media Records on February 6, 2012.  Necrowretch began recording their first studio album in August 2012.  “Putrid Death Sorcery”,  was released through Century Media Records on January 28,  2013 on CD, vinyl and digital download.  Necrowretch then played live shows with touring drummer K Desecrator, who left the band on June 14, 2013 after playing  7 shows.

Necrowretch released a music video for “Putrid Death Sorcery” on 17 July 2013, with a compilation album being announced for release on 21 October 2013. Fans attending the Live Evil Festival in London were able to buy copies early from the band themselves.  Bestial Rites 2009–2012 was released as a compilation of the band’s previous demo and EP material, on October 21  in Europe and November 5 in North America through Century Media Records on CD and digital download.  Necrowretch were also confirmed as being one of the bands in the lineup for Hellfest in June 2015

In a post on their Facebook page, Necrowretch stated that Ilmar Marti Uibo would play all the 2014 shows and would be their drummer on the next album.  Following the departure of Amphycion in August, the band announced they had signed with Season of Mist, with plans to release their third studio album in 2017.  In January 2017, the band premiered the first track from their third album, titled “Satanic Slavery”, which was released on April 14, 2017.   Their latest album, “The Ones From Hell”  was released on February 14, 2020, on Season of Mist.

Their new album will be released February 2, 2024.  Check it…

Let’s meet the band:

Vlad – Vocals, Guitar (2008-present)

Wence – Guitar (2017-present)

Pierrick – Bass (2009 -present)

Ilmar Marti Uibo – Drums (2013-present)

My Thoughts:

If you look at the pics you can see how much they are into their music.  That’s how it should be, it’s all over their faces.  Check out the new album in February.  They are on FB and Instagram,  their website is really nice check that out also.  Well that’s it for this week my HeadBangers.  Join me Wednesday for Hump Day and next Saturday for the weekly band.  Until then don’t stand to close to the fire if you can’t handle the burn…..

WEEK 234 – BaYat – PART II – THE INTERVIEW

My HeadBangers here I am back with the Interview.  It came in about 2 hours after I had posted the first part.  Sorry guys but, it’s worth the wait, and the time difference always effects us.   When I got up this morning I didn’t even want to move but, the metal cat Snake made me lol.  So I got my Lemon Water, tied my hair back in a pony tail and here I am.  I want to thank Anton Hedberg at Rexius Records for contacting me about the band and putting me in touch with BaYat’s manager David Anthony Kitching who worked with me getting the questions answered and back to me, a big thanks to David, it was a pleasure working with him, I look forward to working with him in the future.  OK  let’s get to the Q&A provided by their Vocalist, Milos, aka M8.  As always mine in blue and Milos is in black.

My first question is why the change with the band line-up?  Did any of you know each other before the change?  I am so bad at putting more than one question together, sorry about that, I’m working on it.

That is something that happened naturally and logically even though that is not that often.  The previous lineup moved from almost 10 years of doing covers to the original band and with 2020. And everything that has been happening we ended up in different places, emotionally, in genre, in creativity so we decided to part ways.

The current lineup is completely new for everyone and Ghost (drums) and Z (Guitar) knew each other and I knew Johnny from before. Blitz was auditioned and he was a great addition to the band, I am really satisfied with how we work and sound together already.  It feels like we have known each other for years now even though we got together recently.

BaYat was on the blog at Week 100, awhile I know, now for Week 234. At Week 100 I spoke to my readers a lot about the message I was getting through your music. Now that the line-up has changed is this going to change the music too?

Well, I feel like that we changed the sound a bit on this EP. The first album was different, nothing major but at least I can feel the difference. From the start, we had an idea of creating the trilogy, having the warnings on the first album and this EP that says that we ignored those warnings and that we need to start over.  Initially 3rd one will be some sort of closure to this story and I always had in mind that it should be even rawer just more RnR. And with this line up I believe that we are on the right way. The new guys brought slightly different sounds but the point and foundations are the same.

I bought your new EP and I’m listening to the songs at this writing. What was your inspiration for these songs? I really am interested in learning about “So It Begins”. I love Wasted Land, but “So It Begins”, feels like you are pulling it right out of your heart/soul. What a great song to end the EP with.

Thanks, I’m glad you liked it.. Inspiration really comes from everyday experiences that surround us and the feelings that are created by those situations. “So It Begins” had its first version in 2016. but that idea never saw the light of the day. When we started this bend I found that one again and it fit perfectly in the ambiance and storyline. We did remodel it a bit and I have made some changes to my earlier lyric and there she was.

But it’s original message is environmentally oriented but It has many layers and represents those emotions that most of us feel at least once. All in all, we are really satisfied with how the music lyrics and video came out, that was our message and that is why the first album is named after that one.

As for the rest of the songs they were created in that period from 2020. Where we had a lot of time to think about the stuff and a lot of things have changed. I have to admit I was in the right place for those types of lyrics at that moment so again that fit perfectly in this second EP called “Purge”.

The whole EP is great, and I mean that.  How long did it take you to come up with these 6 songs?

Thanks again. It wasn’t that long. I believe 4 studio songs were finished in 2021 and “Wasted Land” and “So It Begins” were arranged and recorded live a couple of months ago. We were busy looking for the right people for the band.

Who comes up with these songs? I mean the words are hitting you right in the face. Is it one person or does everyone contribute?  Whoever comes up with the words you get a head bow from me, they are just fire.

We were usually doing it that way the guitar player from the first lineup had some riffs recorded sometimes somewhere and meantime I was writing on some topic that affected me or my surroundings.

Then we just feel when lyrics hit the riff and vice versa and start building. Sometimes from chorus sometimes from just riff sometimes from verse. You just lose yourself in the process until you are satisfied.

Most if not all of the songs were created that way. A new lineup has a similar workflow for now but we are still preparing to promote this EP and for the live gigs so we’ll see once we start working on the new material.

What is next in store for BaYat?

Right now we are 100% focused on live gigs and potential tours for promotion of our latest EP. Pubs, moto gatherings festivals, we want them all. And of course, slowly we are thinking about the 3rd album.

Winter is coming so what will BaYat be doing during this time?

Gigs relaxing with families during the holidays and preparing for next year’s challenges.

Do you have any plans for touring?

As I mentioned yes we do have plans but for the end of this year we are focused on playing live again, it’s been too long. We will go into more detail and full organization in 2024.

Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

Thank you all for the support so far hopefully we won’t have any of these long breaks and we’ll see ya soon live. Till then stay smart and listen to good music.

My Thoughts

My HeadBangers I am serious when I say listen to this EP.  Itunes has it that’s where I bought mine.  It was the best money I’ve spent in awhile.  I already have it on my phone and a CD in my beast.  Do yourself a favor and check it out,  it’s on YouTube, so get to it.

See you all this Wednesday for Hump Day, and remember, don’t stand to close to the fire if  you can’t handle the burn…..

WEEK 234 – BaYat

My HeadBangers this week I am revisiting a band that was on the blog for Week 100 from Novi Sad, Serbia.  Yeah that was quite a while ago.  This week an interview was scheduled, but times and studio sessions are interrupting it for now.  As soon as it comes in I will do a Part II as I have in the past.  In the meantime let’s take a look at the band now.

“Wasted Land”

“So It Begins”

The band has had some major changes like a whole new band except for Milos (M8) the vocalist.  I have to say that I love their sound so much I went and bought the new EP “Purge”, and I have everyone listening to, so everybody check it out.  Let’s look at some bio on the band:

The Hard Rock Band’s Path of Transformation

Born in the cradle of Novi Sad, Serbia, BaYaT isa formidable five-piece hard rock band with a passion for powerful,  honest lyrics and electrifying live performances. Echoing the style of influential rock groups like Audioslave and  Godsmack, BaYaT has carved its unique space in the global rock music scene.

Their music is an unfiltered reflection of society’s complexities and personal experiences, mirrored through their evolving perspective on life and change. Each composition packs a powerful punch, setting listeners on a profound sonic journey.

Finding their strength in the true values of community, family, and love, their songs represent a refreshing perspective in a world full of materialism. Acknowledging the power of personal transformation, they aim to inspire others to make the world a better place.

BaYaT first set the world ablaze with their debut album “So It Begins”, known for its raw power and compelling storytelling. The band has also released several singles over the past three years. They were also finalists in the 2020 Wigwam UK radio online awards for best global alternative rock band.

The next step in their journey came in 2023 when they signed with Rexius Records. As they continue to deliver powerful music, BaYaT is undeniably on a meteoric rise, solidifying their place as a global rock phenomenon.

Let’s meet the new band:

Milos Bajat ( M8 ), Vocals,  was born in 1987, Novi Sad, Serbia. His early influences were David Coverdale and Steven Tyler. However, as time went by some other artists made an impact on him as well. In particular, the late Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. Rock and Roll has always been his genre as it is the one area of music that just makes sense to him.

In 2010 he won “The Battle of the Bands” in Sarajevo with his former band “Supernova”, competing with 300 other bands from the Balkans. He also participated in music competition shows: “The Voice of Serbia” & “The X Factor Serbia” in 2011 and 2012. In 2015 he joined “Generacija 5”, an iconic Serbian band. Together they performed at “Zajecarska Gitarijada”, one of the longest lasting festivals in Serbia and in South Eastern Europe.

M8 says music is not just a vocation, but a way of life. Therefore, his primary focus is to record more songs with BaYaT, so that he can share them with people all around the world.

Born Nikola Odradović in 1995, in Novi Sad, Serbia. Johnny, Lead Guitar, started playing guitar when he was 11, just a few months after his older brother got an acoustic guitar. He grew up listening to classic rock bands such as Deep Purple, Rainbow, Whitesnake and Black Sabbath and started learning to play their songs.

Johnny attended a show where his guitar teacher was playing, after that  dreamed of having a rock band, writing songs and performing on the big stage. At the age of 14, he formed his first band. Influenced by Ritchie Blackmore, Eddie Van Halen, Andy Timmons and Richie Kotzen, he developed advanced guitar playing skills.

He has since played with many local bands through the years and had hundreds of gigs. His passion for music, guitars and equipment has also led him to learn how to record and produce music.

Johnny says that playing music is his reason for being on this planet and that music always inspires him and shapes his life.

Born Zlatko Ljubović. Mr. Z’s, Rhythm Guitar,  musical journey started in his early childhood. When he was just eight years old, he found an old guitar in his father’s closet and taught himself to play. His first guitar heroes were David Gilmour, Adrian Smith and Dave Mustaine, who have helped him find his style throughout the years.

Mr. Z has  played in several notable bands in the Balkans: a cover band called Mandrake from Kikinda; Aura+ from Novi Sad, in which he participated in the making of three albums, and which won a competition hosted by a famous Serbian band called Neverne Bebe for best original song; Nemir, which came first in the Gitarijada Vojvodine battle of the bands; as well as many other, less notable ones.

Some of his favorite artists are Pink Floyd, Megadeth, Nevermore, Black Label Society, Devin Townsend, Wovenhand, Mastodon, Gojira, and many more. In addition to rock and metal, he enjoys dark ambient and atmospheric. Besides music, he is an amateur astronomer, and spends his spare time gazing at the Moon and stars. He is also a huge fan of the Witcher books and games.

Born Laslo Kočiš  in 2002, Zrenjanin, Serbia. Blitz, Bass Guitar, started playing bass in 2018 when he got into his first high school band “Bullet Kiss”. Before that he went to music school, where he played the violin for 6 years.

He was influenced by Steve Harris, Roger Glover, Victor Wooten and Justin Chancellor. Two years ago he joined  a band called “Affliction”. They released one song “Bring the fear” and one demo song “Attention”. He is also playing in a band called “Fatal error”, which is a cover band. He has  played at many moto gatherings, concerts, pubs and festivals.

Music makes him feel safe, a forest of emotions where he can be himself and not have to worry about a single thing. It’s his escape from this harsh reality.

Born Dušan Marković in 1977, in Novi Sad, Serbia. Ghost, Drummer, as a young teenager was mostly disruptive due to his constant tapping on everything that he got his hands on. Since music was his first true love, drums were the only logical thing, and when he heard Billy Cobham, it was a done deal.

Ghosts’ early influences were NoMeansNo, Primus, Jamiroquai, Megadeth and Sepultura. Later, he developed a taste for more classic forms, such as ZZ Top, ACDC, old school delta blues and funk.

He spent most of the 90s playing with different local bands which dragged him through a few genres, mostly progressive rock and even laid back lounge jazz and evergreen gigs. In the late 2000s, Ghost participated in local trash metal for a few years.

Ghost’s philosophy is that sound and music are universal languages. It’s made to communicate emotions directly, without the interference of language or culture barriers. It’s the one thing that connects us all…  Especially at this moment in human history.

Well my HeadBangers I hope you really listen to their music, it will really make you think.  As I said as soon as I get the interview I will do a Part 11.

That’s it for this week.  Join me Wednesday for Hump Day and next Saturday for the weekly band.  In the meantime, don’t stand to close to the fire if you can’t handle the burn…
